Kapama Thulumahashe Childrens Home
Be a part of the growth of our new democracy….
The Thulamahashe Childrens’ Home Trust
The Home is situated in the centre of the town, Thulamahashe, which lies some 40 kilometres South of Kapama. It is a safe haven for orphaned and abandoned children. Designed to accommodate a maximum of 12 State subsidised children, in reality, there are at least 14 to 20 children at the home, at any given time.
Currently, the youngest member of the ‘family’ is 3 months old – a girl abandoned by her mother, while the oldest is a 17-year old in his last year of schooling. The physical amenities of the Home are Spartan, with one bathroom and a tiny kitchen to cater for all their needs. The home barely copes.
The dream of the Thulamahashe Childrens’ Home Board of Governors is to raise sufficient funds to build a new house, owned by the Home itself. In that way the Home will be assured of continued existence and be able to supplement the meagre public grants on which it currently has to rely to ensure quality life for all the children it takes in.
As a result of careful planning and dedicated fundraising the Board has already managed to purchase a piece of land on which to build a new home.
Kapama Private Game Reserve has adopted the Thulamahashe Children’s Home as part of its contribution to the social upliftment of the very poor in the local community. To drive the program, Kapama has set up a Trust Fund, which it administers on behalf of the Home. Once sufficient funds have been raised, Kapama, in association with the Governors of the Home, will use its own building team to ensure that the dream home is accountably and properly turned into reality.
A visit to the Thulamahashe Children’s’ Home provides a moving but heart-warming opportunity for visitors to experience the dedicated determination with which one of the most urgent social demands of South Africa’s new Rainbow Democracy is being addressed by committed social workers and caring members of the community.
Should you wish to make a contribution to the Thulamahashe Children’s Home Trust and help to build both a home for the future of these South Africa children, Kapama will be happy to facilitate this. |
