Weddings
A wedding in the wilds of Africa is unlike any other wedding celebration in the world. A safari wedding is limited only by your imagination, and at Kapama we let our imaginations run wild. Each occasion becomes a carefully planned and co-ordinated event, and we reach new levels of creativity with each bush wedding we plan.
Given the personal nature of a wedding, each event is tailor-made to suit the bridal couples' wishes. We always include two daily safaris drives, three meals and accommodation and if the lodge is exclusive to your wedding guests, the staff and facilities are at your disposal with all the regular inclusions and exclusions.
Kapama Game Reserve has two lodges and two luxury tented camps with the following accommodation facilities:
- Kapama Lodge: 40 beds (20 rooms).
- Kapama River Lodge: 128 beds (64 rooms, two of which are full suites).
- Buffalo Camp: 16 beds (8 luxury safari tents).
- Karula Camp: 24 beds (7 luxury tents & 5 luxury chalets)
The variety of accommodation sizes and styles makes Kapama the ideal venue with a number of wedding options.
We recommend a late afternoon wedding ceremony in a bush setting, permitting sufficient time for photography before sunset. Whilst the extended photo session is in progress, the rest of the party can go on a game drive. The entire party would then return to the lodge and freshen up before the reception dinner. A schedule such as this would not incur any additional charges.
However, if you want a few novel specialities at your wedding, here is a list of some of the optional extras:
- Local choir singing in African harmony at the wedding ceremony
- Chairs and wedding décor at the bush ceremony site
- Cocktails at the bush ceremony venue
- Décor at the dinner venue
- Plated reception dinner of 3 to 5 courses
- Extra sound and lighting at reception
- Wedding cake
- Entertainment
- Hair and make-up
- Flowers
It is important to note that camp exclusivity is important for most variations from the standard safari program. This will ensure that both the lodge and the vehicles are dedicated exclusively to your wedding party. Any additional vehicles required will incur an extra charge.
Paperwork is often the cause of much confusion and numerous factors determine the legality of the wedding ceremony. While an ordained minister may perform the ceremony in the bush, signing of the register needs to take place under a permanent structure. There may also be other legal requirements, dependant on religion or country of origin. In the event that specialist attention is required to perform the administration, we would typically contract a wedding co-coordinator to ensure everything runs smoothly and charges would be incurred for the following:
- Minister/Priest/other or Home Affairs official as required for the wedding ceremony (transport included)
- Issuing of a full marriage certificate on the day of the wedding
