Amazing Race
R 20,000 per group of up to 80 guests
The Kapama Amazing Race is loosely based on the highly successful television series, but we use GPS hand units to assist navigation through this African bush adventure.
Teams are in multiples of 7 to 10 (one Landrover) and the length of the race can be tailored to suit available time. The race can even begin outside Kapama Game Reserve, such as at Johannesburg International Airport.
In its typical format, the race lasts three hours with a 30-minute briefing. This is about the same time as a normal game drive. Each team or Landrover is issued with a GPS, a set of waypoints and questions, a map, a guide, Landrover and a fictitious budget. The objective is to reach as many waypoints as possible in the 3-hour time limit and successfully answer the questions. The GPS allows us to measure several key performance areas; distance covered, average speed, maximum speed, route chosen, etc. The fictional budget provides the team with resources to buy information and pay for travel, but exceeding the speed limit and travelling too far incur fines. Revenue is earned by successfully reaching and completing each waypoint.
The team will be required to perform activities at each of stopping point, such as tracking, blind-fold driving, identification of fauna and flora. Although the program is designed to deliver a great deal of fun, it is possible to integrate some corporate objectives or sales opportunities. This is achieved by working company related questions or messages into the waypoint questions.
Participating in Game capture
R 65,000 per group
Game capture is often required for relocation of animals, treating wounds, or for attaching anti-poaching tracking devices. Kapama can plan such activity to involve a group to help locate the animal and be present at the darting. They can assist in moving, treating and releasing the animal. This activity is of very limited availability and is hence a very special event.
Elephant interaction
R650.00 per person
The elephant interaction offers the visitor the unique opportunity to get amazingly close to an animal which can usually only be viewed from a respectful distance. This activity takes place after breakfast and guests return in time for lunch at the lodge. It is therefore ideal for guests who want to take full advantage of the morning and evening game drives but also wants the opportunity to interact with these gentle giants.
Your ranger will drive you to a pre-arranged location in the bush where you will get to see sixteen African Elephants, which range in age from less than eighteen months, to thirty years. These trained elephants take half an hour out of their day to act as ambassadors for their kind. After a brief introduction, some of the elephants are brought forward for you to meet and interact with. Here you can see, feel and even smell the elephant while both feeding and photographing them.
It is and ideal forum to learn about elephants, both wild and trained. An experienced handler accompanies each elephant and is there to educate and inform the guests about the individual animals, the herd in general and of course to answer any questions. You will see the behavior of the babies playing together while under the watchful eyes of their mothers, while witnessing the more mature habit of the adults.
At the end of your time with the elephants, guests are driven back to their lodge by a ranger while the elephants continue feeding in the bush. |
